Hey Grandpa, It’s been around 3/4 of a year and everyday I’m missing you more. I wish I could get up and say my speech myself but after the end of that montage with me and you dancing but I just couldn’t contain my emotions.
I try my best to live up to your legacy in my own way and still have that Beattles Lego set you gave me and will build it when one year has passed. So much has happened in school that I KNOW you would be proud of and wish you could’ve been there to see them.
I am truly honored to be your eldest grandson and cherish every moment we had (Bad or not).
TONS of love, Zach xx
Ron was an amazing human being. Every meeting, every moment with him was inspiring and motivational. I can’t forget the hours we spent together preparing an aligning the IMAGO Awards. What a pleasure it was. His legacy was to taught me to be a little bit kinder every day, and I am trying. Thanks Ron for all you have done for imago and cinematographers all over the world.
As I watch this memorial I am reminded that the product we create in our lifetime are inconsequential compared to the friendships we make. That’s the true value of the lives we lead. I didn’t know Ron as long as those who have commented above. Irrespective of that , time spent with Ronnie will always have a special place in my storyline and hopefully in his as well. Farewell mate. Much love big fella.
RIP Ron, you were larger than life itself, thank you for giving me my first opportunity in the world of film making. It’s all you!
Sorry I couldn’t be there in person, I’m in London, what a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man who shared so much with so many..
love to you all x
To Kelly & Shannon, once again, you have done your dad so very proud in putting together such a warm and loving tribute to his great life. Nald idolised you both. He told me so. Many, many times.
I watched the video upon returning home yesterday. The storylines and imagery triggered my spending the night dreaming of times gone by with the big fella. Some of the best times of my life.
Thank you for sharing him. Love ‘Losus’
My husband Brian and I knew Ron as our “ very entertaining friend” , great stories over the dinner table at Christmas in Perth.
What a wonderful tribute, we have learned so much about the impact Ron had on Cinematography and the lives he touched along the way , he would have been so proud of what Kelly and Shannon have put together today
Thank you for sharing this with us
To Ronnie‘s family and to his cinematography family not just Australia but around the world I had the great privilege of travelling with Ronnie to some cinematographers conferences and I felt so proud to be in his company as I’ve often said Ronnie could run a huge corporation with a few of the right people around him He was a big softy at heart and so dedicated to the ACS. He was one of a kind with a great love and great respect to you Ronnie and it was nice talking to you a few weeks before you passed David Brill.
RIP Ron
In life you were an inspiration for so many in the film industry especially cinematographers both experienced and upcoming who had the great honor of being your colleague on set and more importantly your friend. And I know your legacy will keep inspiring more camera pointers for a long time to come.
I’ll miss you Ronny.
Thank you Kelly, family and friends for this wonderful tribute.
Dearest Ronnie
Thankyou for being in my life
I will never forget what you did for me. The day we lost our brother and son you sat with me; calmed me under the most devastating of situations, the epitome of love and friendship
I have never forgotten this moment
I will cherish your memory forever
I love you

“Ok, quiet on set, Sound needs to get some atmos….”
30 second passes….then:
“Car-caw, car caw” (Ronnie doing his bird impression, or a fart sound)
What a great and wonderful man. As warm as the lights he shot under. A human first and foremost and then on top of that a great director.
VALE big feller.
To Linda, Kelly and your family.
Thank you for giving us a wonderful farewell to our friend and colleague Ron.
I worked with Ron at Senior Films and remember his humour and warmth.
In the many years since, our communications have been sporadic but always with the same warmth, as if we had spoken the day before.
He will always be remembered.
Beautiful memorial and so many wonderful memories of Ronnie J shared.
He was an absolute legend! He gave so much to the industry and grew so many of us up.
We worked on so many campaigns together of many years.
I’ll always remember him so fondly.
Sorry I could not be there in person. My heart goes out to you Kelly and Shannon and all the family.
RIP and God Luv Ya Ronnie J.
Xx

It’s been a joy and at times an honour to have known and worked with Ron. First meeting him on ‘Freedom’ where I was doing some additional shooting, his reputation preceded him and I quickly realised he was larger than that.
Years later Ron reciprocated by coming to Adelaide and doing some additional shooting on a feature with me. I couldn’t believe he’d come down and help out. Good on you Ron! There was so many times sharing the judging room with Ron at ACS awards. He was always so positive and respectful of all the entries and kept the show going… and fun. Last time I was with him as I left he said ‘come on gives a hug’. A good memory.
Today Ruth and I are a part of celebrating your rich life, Ron.
I still cannot bring myself to write “Ron was…”. Ron is, and will always be, the warmest person I have met. Ron, Nina and me called each other the Band. Every IMAGO Board Meeting was a Band reunion. I know nothing about music, but thanks to Ron, I have toured with our Band all over the world. London, Los Angeles, Rome, Brussels, Jerusalem, Helsinki, Delphi, Belgrade, Oslo… you name it. We were supposed to have a Band reunion in London last year, but for my utter shock, it was not meant to be.
Every time we met, we shared pictures of my children and Ron’s grandchildren and I had the privilege to watch them growing up over the years. He loved his family more than anything and talked so proudly of everyone, especially his incredible mom and wonderful Linda.
Ron had a rare ability to be both leader and a team member. So when the question came up, if either of us would run for IMAGO Presidency, we decided – we’ll either do it together or not do it at all. And thus, IMAGO, that had only had one President at a time, welcomed a co-presidency. Ron’s work as IMAGO Board Member, co-President, Diversity & Inclusion Committee member and Master Class Committee member is impossible to measure. Ron is one of the people who made IMAGO what it is now.
But first and foremost Ron was kind. One of a kind.
Farewell dearest Ron. Next Band reunion – in Valhalla.
That life montage to “Beautiful Boy” –
hard to watch.
had me in tears.
Beautifully put together.
Bill
Ron and I started at Crawford Productions within a few weeks of each other 1965-1966.
We reconnected via Facebook several years ago.
Condolences to Ron’s Family and Friends.
Ron loved Tassie and was a supporter of many Tasmanian cinematographers and ACS events in Tassie over the decades.
His unmatchable effort level and engaging personality always got things happening.
Thank you Ron for all of your care, laughs and work across the wider industry!
Sending love to all.
Vale Ron Johanson
Ron was generous, kind, witty, and fun. He welcomed me into the cinematography community during my time at ARRI Australia—at a time when many found the changes to the team unsettling, even unfair. The ACS was all the better for his appointment as president.
He was a straight talker with a whip-smart sense of humour. Oh, how he could make you laugh. Rarely do humans exude pure joy the way Ron did.
To Ron’s family—I send you courage and strength for today and the journey ahead. May an army of love embrace you always.
Jennifer and I wish we could be there this morning Kelly –
You know how much Ron meant to us.
He always called me Sir William, and I in turn called him Sir Ronald!
He had such a huge heart – there are very few people you meet in your life that have such generosity of spirit. Irrespective of his professional accomplishments, which were extraordinary, Jennifer and I will always remember Ron for his love, his compassion, and his wicket sense of humour!
He will be sorely missed, but he’ll never be forgotten.
Much love,
Bill & Jennifer
I got to know Ron really well, through being the NZCS ( and ACS) ‘man on the spot’ in London – repping both societies on occassion for IMAGO gigs, BSC gigs and various events across Europe. We became good mates, and anyone who knew Ron knows just what a warm, giving, funny guy he was. Total life and soul of the event/meeting/party 🙂
One of the old school.
Miss ya mate.

Ron was the kindest … the most generous person … He helped me more than people would know … I miss him terribly … He was simply a great guy and I feel so grateful to be able to call him my friend👍
Kindest regards

From big budget extravaganzas to single shot retail TVCs, no production was ever a problem for Ronny. He was a joy to work with and a professional in every sense of the word – he had time for everyone. We became firm friends from the beginning and he tought me everthing I know about crafting the essentials. God bless you dearest Ronny – you were a one-off.

I met Ronnie when 1st AD on a ghastly feature experience which his sense of humour and solid friendship helped me to survive. He shot my first feature ‘Freedom’ in 1981, and later invited me into the world of commercials. Though our paths diverged, our friendship was ever strong. I will always remember his kindness and warmth, his indefatigable generosity of spirit. Vale Ronnie, with love from me and Kerry and the family.

Ron was truly a very special person to know. He had the remarkable ability to put a positive spin on most difficulties and differences that he observed in people and then share them with you making it an exciting and enjoyable experience.
Thanks Ron.

Adrian Ussher….
Ron was my oldest and dearest friend. We met in 1968, when Ron was assistant camera man on the movie ‘Two Thousand Weeks’ My wife at the time was the female lead .
We shot our first commercial together in late 68, in Melbourne
Ron stayed at my flat in Sydney, while on his way to cement his career in Queensland and set up Roly Poly.
We traveled the length and breadth of Australia over the next 55 years, filming commercials together.
I was Director Producer with George Patterson.
Ron was the finest, funniest,
kindest and most professional Cinematographer Director I’ve known,
I’m sorry I can’t be there to. celebrate the memory of this wonderful friend.
Adrian.
Ron was a delight to work with and a terrific guy just to hang out with and socialise. Kind, generous, a wonderful sense of humour – and the stories… Champion man.
Ron, you were truly one in a trillion; so much talent and so much personality. We had a race to see who’d outlive each other. I wish you’d won.
RIP Ron. thanks for all your great work
Ron was one in a billion. As a suit I met him in ’81 and through the Eighties he directed many Peters and Pauls Ice Cream commercials and Sea World to then I last worked with him on QR Tilt Train launch. He was a master with Clients, Agencies and his Team. Always calling out the BS and working to provide the best that could be seen. He will be dearly missed. Regards
